Objectives - Arm
Review the functional osteology of the humerus, radius, ulna.
Master the anterior and posterior compartments of the arm
Understand muscle group attachments, function, blood supply and innervation.
Follow the anterior branches from the lateral and medial cord of the brachial plexus that form the letter “M” - musculocutaneous, median and ulnar nerves. Pay particular attention to the course of the nerves at the elbow.
Follow the posterior branch from the posterior cord of the brachial plexus – the radial nerve. Pay particular attention to the course of the radial nerve in the spiral groove and at the elbow.
Identify the course and branches of the brachial artery as it branches into the radial and ulnar.
Be aware of the anastomosis at the elbow.
Identify the boundaries of the cubital fossa and its contents.
Notes:
Review the lab using the objectives as a guide – note the value and importance of a systemic review of the limb – ie study all the arteries as they travel through the entire limb, repeat for veinous drainage, repeat for innervation etc.
